ABSTRACT

Cervical spine pathology, particularly disc herniation, remains a leading cause of chronic pain and disability. While its pathogenesis is classically attributed to degenerative and mechanical factors, recent research emphasizes systemic and functional interactions that extend beyond the spine itself. Oral health plays a notable role in this context: temporomandibular disorders, malocclusion, and altered stomatognathic function have been associated with changes in posture and increased cervical strain. Conversely, cervical dysfunctions can intensify orofacial pain through the trigeminocervical complex, highlighting a bidirectional relationship. This narrative review synthesizes evidence on the oral–systemic interplay in cervical spine pathology, with particular focus on functional recovery and recurrence prevention. Findings suggest that multimodal rehabilitation, integrating dental, postural, and physiotherapeutic strategies, may offer superior outcomes compared with isolated approaches. Recognizing the interconnection between oral and cervical health provides a valuable framework for developing interdisciplinary treatment pathways.
