Abstract:
Smoking remains one of the greatest health threats, with devastating effects on both oral and general health. The aim of the study: to validate the measurement instrument used (a 40-item questionnaire) and confirm its usefulness as a tool in researching smoking behavior among younger generations. Materials and Methods: The study involved 150 students from the Faculty of Dentistry at the “Grigore T. Popa” University of Medicine and Pharmacy Iași, selected based on well-defined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Participants completed a questionnaire measuring attitudes towards smoking. The validity and reliability of the instrument were tested by calculating Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient and performing factor analysis. Results: A Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient of 0.878 was obtained, indicating very good reliability of the questionnaire. The mean response value was 2.79, indicating a neutral stance of participants towards statements related to smoking. Inter-item correlations were modest but significant, and factor analysis confirmed that the items measure distinct aspects of smoking attitudes. Conclusions: The results of the study confirm the effectiveness of the questionnaire used to understand students’ attitudes towards smoking.
