Abstract

This study aimed to validate the Albanian version of the Calgary Sleep Apnea Quality of Life Index (SAQLI), a disease-specific tool assessing health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Material and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 20 OSA-diagnosed patients. The SAQLI questionnaire, translated and culturally adapted into Albanian, was evaluated for internal consistency, construct validity, and test-retest reliability. Psychometric assessments included Cronbach’s alpha, intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), and exploratory factor analysis. Results: The SAQLI demonstrated strong internal consistency across its four core domains (daily functioning, social interactions, emotional functioning, and symptoms), with Cronbach’s alpha ranging from 0.79 to 0.86. ICC values confirmed high reliability (0.86–0.91). Factor analysis supported the construct validity by showing distinct clustering of items within each domain. Conclusions: The Albanian version of SAQLI is a reliable and valid instrument for evaluating HRQoL in OSA patients. Its psychometric performance aligns with previous international validations, supporting its use in both clinical and research settings. This version fills a critical gap in the availability of standardized OSA-specific QoL tools for Albanian-speaking populations.
